Paneling

So I have been watching Twin Peaks on Netflix, and I am drawn to this beautiful mural in what is supposed to be the Great Northern Hotel.  This space is actually the Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo, Washington built by the Suquamish descendants of Chief Sealth

What an interesting concept to paint a mural over wood paneling. Image via Flickr.

...where the wild things are...

Since inspiration often comes from imagination, I wanted to post about products related to the release of the movie "Where The Wild Things Are".

Below are some the greatest art, clothing, figures, and housewares inspired by this theatrical release (October 16th), many of which come from Urban Outfitters. The movie also has a great soundtrack recorded by Karen O and the Kids.

also...Gallery Nucleus has a gallery titled Terrible Yellow Eyes featuring artwork inspired by the book.

Muse | Starlight

With the release on Tuesday of their newest album The Resistance, I thought I would share my love of Muse. A band from England who have transformed contemporary alternative music worldwide. Not to mention their concerts look so amazing, this video is a live performance of "Starlight". And you can watch their new video for Uprising on MTV UK.

French Films... I love....again.

Here is yet another post on French films, I just can't get enough of them. Below are additional examples of fantastic films set in different time periods.

Directed by Mathieu Kassovitz (actor from Amelie)
This is probably one of the best crime drama / thrillers I have seen. This film will keep you guessing.

Directors other notable work: La Haine / Hate (1995)

Directed by Claude Miller
Drama set during WWII about a Jewish family in France.  Features Ludivine Sagnier, Julie Depardieu, and Cécile De France who are all very strong female characters in this film.

Directors other notable work: La Classe de Neige (1998)

Directed by Éric Guirado
A young man goes back to where he grew up to help run the family business and re-discover himself. The movie was filmed in locations in and around  Rosans, Hautes-Alpes, France.

Directors other notable work:  Quand tu descendras du ciel (2003)

French Films...I Love

Since I have been discussing and showing images of my past trip to France. I wanted to share some of my favorite French Films and Filmmakers. I love getting caught up in the beautiful scenery, and discovering how they each have a style of their own.

Three Colors: Blue (Trois Couleurs: Bleu)
Which is actually a French-Polish film, Directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski
Kieslowski made this a trilogy so the other two films are Three Colors: White and Red (1994). Each film has a fantastic actress in the lead role.

The Director's other notable work: The Double Life of Véronique (1991)

This Film has many notable directors who contributed since the film is a series of shorts directed by 21 different directors, of which are not all french directors. Its a must see if you have been to Paris since they feature many fantastic locations.

Swimming Pool
Is a French-English film Directed by François Ozon
This film is what introduced me to Ludivine Sagnier (whom I love) who also has a role in Paris, Je T' Aime. The film is a thriller set in the countryside of France, so there is plenty of beautiful scenery and a fantastic plot.

Directors other notable work: 8 Women (8 femmes) (2002), starring Ludivine Sagnier.

Amélie (Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain)
Is a French film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet
This film introduced the world to Audrey Tautou, who's leading role is of a lady who works as a waitress. This film is almost work of art, by the way the director carefully thought out each quirky minute. The love interest in the film is played by Mathieu Kassovitz who is also a famous and fabulous French Filmmaker.

Directors other notable work: The City of Lost Children (1995), where Ron Perlman speaks fluent French.

Away We Go | Alexi Murdoch

Watched a great movie today, Away We Go with John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph, directed by Sam Mendes.

The movie has a great soundtrack with songs mostly performed by Alexi Murdoch who is amazingly talented singer-songwriter. Below is a video of his song "Slow Revolution", performed live at the Bowery Ballroom.
